Last day tomorrow!
Jul 31st
It’s my last day at work tomorrow, I have two glorious weeks off,?one of which will be spent in Majorca as mentioned in the post below.
I initially had next week and the week after booked off, but with the holiday feeling very much in the air, I felt myself lacking motivation to work today! So pleaded with my boss to let me have my second weeks holiday this week instead. He compromised with me and is allowing me from Wednesday onwards off, meaning I return to work on 2 weeks on Weds. Fine by me!
Will be nice to forget about work for a few weeks
Holiday Booked!
Jul 30th
Finally booked our holiday yesterday! We are going to Santa Ponsa in Majorca for 7 days as of next Saturday!!!
Was having a bit of a nightmare finding anything beforehand, searching on all the obvious websites with nothing standing out. Then my dad called last night and suggested we tried SkyTravel – and this was the first holiday that popped up when I searched. It seemed to fit the bill straight away and was within our budget …maybe I was fed up of looking, but this seemed to be just fine, so I booked it!
Mail Server Up!
Jul 27th
Been busy all evening installing and configuring a mail server to run off my home server!
I chose to use Mercury Mail as it seems quite simple to setup and use. I also added a webmail frontend, with my first choice being Horde/IMP …and when I gave up trying to figure that out I chose the amusingly titled ‘SquirrelMail‘ !!
Took a while to get it all going, as initially the server wouldn’t process any external emails. After a bit of digging around though I realised I needed to update my domains to cope with relaying externally. All good now though, it is fine sending and receiving!
Pretty pleased all in all, my trusty home server now runs http(apache)this website is hosted on it!/mysql/ftp and now email.
Off The Wall
Jul 25th
Went to see the Pink Floyd tribute act, Off The Wall, on Saturday night. They were headlining a little festival here in Bridgwater. I went along with? Greg & Leigh, plus Lucy, Becky, Kelly and Becky’s sister Helen. Tickets were ?15?a head, but it was well worth it.
We got there for around?6pm. There were quite a few people already there, but you could tell this was just the start. We quickly found the beer tent and got ourselves a drink. This was quite possibly the worst aspect of the evening. Warm beer in plastic pint glasses, that you had to queue for 20-30 minutes to get! In a pub scenario I wouldn’t have dreamt of queueing for so long or drinking out of plastic glasses, but it seemed to fit the bill in the middle of a field!
ISP Update
Jul 25th
Over the weekend I submitted my migration request to leave Multiplay and return to freedom2surf. I have made a few posts on their support forums to test the water aswell, to see what has changed and if service is any worse/better. It would seem there are quite a lot of unhappy people there, but at the same time, the happy ones dont goto support forums do they? ….so the views of most people on there have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Time will tell I guess, but I won’t mind just ‘trying’ f2s for a month or two. I have nothing to lose.
The migration should hopefully go through in the next few days. In the meantime, I intend to abuse my Multiplay connection as much as possible just to get my moneys worth
Damn ISP’s!

The heat is on!
Jul 19th
It’s been hot as hell these last few days, with temperatures apparently at a record breaking high!?I work in an office with no air conditioning and at least 100 PC’s blasting out heat on my floor alone. It has been incredibly unpleasant and made it very hard to concentrate.
Interestingly, there is no law that says your workplace has to be cooled. There is a law that states a minimum working temperature … but no maximum temperature. Very strange, as heat can kill! can’t see the cold doing that to any of us! It’s one thing that should be looked at IMO. It should be complusory for any place of work to provide adequate ventilation and cooling ……
On a positive note, at my request, we are allowed to wear casual dress for the remainder of this week .. thank god! So its shorts and T shirt for me!
I am in two minds aswell ..on one hand I would LOVE for it to cool down and would be more than happy for a few storms .. but on the other hand, Saturday night is the night?I am going to see?the Pink Floyd ‘Off The Wall’ tribute band. It’s an outdoor gig so would be nice for good weather ….
I want the moon on a stick don’t I?
