Cost Cutting

I have been looking at ways of saving money, and have decided that the cost web hosting is really too much. I think my last bill was £63 (I get billed in 6 month slots), which is really far too much when these days all I use the webspace for is this blog.
In the past, I have hosted websites on my own home server, and this is what I intend to return to doing. I have recently acquired a very nice NAS drive which also doubles up as a very nice linux box ..ideal for hosting websites without having a PC/server on, ever!
So, i’ve got the ball rolling by requesting a transfer of this domain name to a company that will allow me to just let it sit with them and point at my custom DNS service (which will then point at my NAS drive/server).
It won’t be seamless as they will undoubtably complete the change when I am in bed, or in work, or busy …so the site and my email may be unavailable for a day or 2.
Windscreen Woes – The Conclusion

As blogged below, my car windscreen washer jets were crap, and I had ordered a superior replacement set.
Today, I finally got around to picking the new jets up, and whilst they were better they were still pretty crap. I put my investigating head on and jacked the car up, removed the drivers side front wheel and the wheel arch lining so I could get to the washer pump/container ..and hey presto, I found the problem. The pipe that leaves the plastic container and goes up to the windscreen was hanging off! ..hence the poor amount of water it was able to drag up and the fact that when I was testing it all out, it seemed to be dumping water underneath the car. I reattached the pipe, and put a thick rubber band around it, linking it to the plastic container. It won’t be coming off in a hurry now!
All now works, and the new jets are loads better than the old ones were when they worked, so was still worth getting them.

Yep, I am sad as can be for putting a video of that online …but I don’t give a monkeys!
